INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXCELS IN LCCI EXAMINATION

MELAKA TOWN: It was indeed a pleasant surprise for Yuniwati, a 20 year old Indonesia student in Stamford College Melaka (SCM) when the college informed her that she had won the Gold Award.

It was also the first in the world as well as in Malaysia for the Management Accounting paper in LCCI third level, May 2000 examination and she could not believe that she had done so well.

Eventually Yuniwati was from the science stream in SMU Swasta Kristen Pancaran Berkat Jakarta, Indonesia and did not have any accounting background when she came to SCM.

But she had a very strong interest in mathematics. She decided to study the Accounting Program in SCM.

When Yuniwati first entered SCM, the lecturer who taught her the Management Accounting paper, Kok Sai Hong, had seen the potential in her and always told her to try her best result in Malaysia.

Yuniwati had taken his statement as an encouragement to herself and the secret of her success was constant practice of the exercise at home. Whenever she had any doubts, she always sought the help of her lecturers in class. She will further her studies in ACCA and do hope to become successful Accountant one day.

Since the establishment of SCM in 1996, it has produced many outstanding award winners at world level and also in the country.

Every year, SCM Accounting School produces the good results especially in the accounting and costing papers. For the year 2000, SCM has become the top college in Melaka in achieving the best results for LCCI (series 2) examination.

Besides this, the students who had taken the Certified Accounting Technicians (CAT) examination had also scored an average passing rate of 90 per cent. According to the lecturer in-charge of the accounting school in SCM, Lim Sook Hwa, the association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently announced their partnership with Oxford Brookes University.

The award of the degree is subject to the examination element with ACCA plus a Research and Analysis Project assessed by Oxford Brookes for which it levies an assessment fee of 50 pound.

On the other hand, ACCA will have a regular examination centre in Melaka soon. This will enable the Melaka students to sit for their ACCA examinations locally. For further enquiries, plese contact 06-282 0305 / 2613 or 06-281 9049.
