GOVERNOR PRESENTS THE KING SCOUTS' CERTIFICATE TO 38 STUDENTS

ISTANA MELAKA: It was a memorable day for 38 students here in Melaka who received their King Scouts' certificates from the Governor of Melaka, Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin in a glittering ceremony at Istana Melaka recently.

National chief scout, Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Daud in his address said that attaining the highest rank in scounting is every young scout's dream as the position reflects months of hard work.

"These young scouts should be proud as the installation is only carried out by none other than the Yang Dipertuan Agung, Sultan or Governor as head of the state," said Sulaiman adding that the scouts should uphold their values while discharging their services to the public.

He said that the scouts have undergone several obstacles and they were evaluated by a team of scouters from the state scout commission before being awarded the prestigious award.

For 18 year-old Lee Huey Er from SMK Seri Tanjung, it was due to her sister, Huey Chin who received the same award two years ago.

"I was inspired by my sister's ability and determination and I decided to give it a try," said Huey Er adding that both her parents Lee Ah Kow and Koh Ah Toh gave her full support. She also paid tribute to her mentor Tan Beng Siang who has not only guided her but has assisted in many of the scouts in the Tengkera and Kota District to achieve their dream.

For both Fabian Sim and Joel Dionysius of SMK St Francis, it was a milestone as their school last had a King Scout, 18 years ago.

They made their parents, their general scoutmaster, Khoo Chai Huat, Beng Siang and Tee Boon Pat very proud for their outstanding accomplishment.

Md Sirat Abu received the Excellent Service medal while Rosli Abdullah, the Loyal Service medal and both Ayob Osman and Zolkapli Ibrahim the Good Service medal. Tang Kwong Loon,75, was awarded the Long Service medal. 15 others received the National Chief Scouts Certificate of Honour.

State Scout's Council Chairman, Datuk Hamdin Abdollah, state scout principals, scoutmasters and parents were also present to witness the installation.
